British media Mirror reported that Ferguson was photographed appearing in the stands of Cardiff City's League One game against Peterborough United on Saturday. He came to support his son Darren Ferguson, who is the head coach of Peterborough United.
Cardiff City finally won the game 2-1, and Ferguson was the secondary highlight of the game. He was captured by cameras sitting in the stands next to Peterborough United football director Barry Fry. Fry has been trained at Old Trafford youth training camp but has never played for the first team. The commentator also pointed out that both Ferguson and Fry had a connection with Manchester United. He said: "I believe we are all excited to see Ferguson here. Another former Manchester United man, Barry Fry, was there, where he spent four years as a player when he was young."
Ferguson retired from coaching after winning his 13th Premier League title in 2013 and then became a club ambassador, often appearing at Old Trafford's game scene.
Manchester United reportedly paid £2 million a year for his position, but the fee has been cancelled as part of a comprehensive cost-cutting plan under Ratcliffe.
Meanwhile, Frye came from Manchester United's youth training camp as early as 1960, but never played for the Red Devils' first team.
He has been associated with Peterborough since 1996. He was originally the club's head coach for 9 years and was later promoted to football director, which he has been in this position until now.
Fry is jointly responsible with Chairman Dara McAnthony and has hired Ferguson's son Darren Ferguson four times.
Darren Ferguson took over the club for the first time in 2007, with a term of two years, and then returned to the office for four years in 2011. He then went to Doncaster Wanderers to coach for four years and returned to Peterborough United in 2019. He resigned again in 2022, but after Grant McCann was fired, he was persuaded to take charge of the team's coaching position for the fourth time the following year.
