PFA senior executives talk about Isaac: The urgent need to solve the problem of football governance, players cannot be forced by the market

Mahta Morango, CEO of the PFA of the Professional Players Association, said "stability is the secret to success" and young players with strong support networks are more likely to succeed in the game. During the summer transfer window, several players tried to force their way out of the club. Newcastle forward Alexander Isaac and Brentford forward Yoan Visa both claim to have informal agreements with their respective clubs and they can leave this summer if certain conditions are met. Isaac hopes to join Liverpool, while Visa firmly says he wants to sign Newcastle. Similarly, Yorke broke into a gentleman's deal with former club Portugal Sports this summer, and he believes he had reached a deal with the Portuguese side before moving to Arsenal.

Morango did not specifically comment on the three transfers, but mentioned a landmark case that ended last October. Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Diyala won a case in the EU Court, successfully demonstrating that some FIFA transfer rules violate EU regulations. In addition, earlier this year, the European Court of Justice ruled that FIFA and UEFA violated EU law when they blocked the European Super League in 2021, believing that these governing bodies abused their "dominant position".

According to BBC Sports, the Professional Players Association believes that FIFA's power is not as broad as it imagines and should use the above-mentioned court ruling as a marker to indicate that greater cooperation is needed among the various stakeholders of football. Morango believes that situations like Isaac and Visa appear in the last few days of the transfer window due to ambiguity in the governance of the game.

"The power of the Pro Players Association is to not intervene in specific cases, to ensure that people have the confidence to ask us for help, we will not discuss specific cases with anyone, especially the media, and what we see is the urgent need to address football governance. There are some recent court decisions that have not attracted much attention, especially at the authority and stakeholder level, and I think clubs and players need a critical need for certainty. Judging from the past few weeks and months, we need to revisit governance based on court judgments."

Morango was interviewed by BBC Sports, on Brisbane Road, east London, where the Pro Players Association summer training camp was underway, with the unsigned player having a friendly match with Leiden Oriental. The camp provides training and support for free agents to help them get a contract.

"Summer training camp is a very important move for us, stemming from our experience as former players, some players do not have clubs and are in difficult times, rethinking what to do next or living in uncertainty. But there are also some players who have received quotes, they want to wait to receive the right offer, evaluate their choices, make the right decisions, and not be forced by the market."
