Southampton Football Club is pleased to announce the introduction of Danish defender Elias Yeret on loan from Galatasaray for a season.
The 22-year-old full-back has won the league championship in three seasons in his four-year career, including two consecutive Premier League titles at Copenhagen FC. After 97 appearances for the Danish club, Yerett moved to Galatasaray last summer, making 35 appearances in various competitions and celebrated a double-winning league and cup in Istanbul.
As a member of the Danish national team, Yerett played three times for the national team. He made 32 appearances in European club events, including matches against Manchester City, Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the Champions League and a win over Tottenham in the UEFA Cup last season. This summer, Yerett played all three games of the Denmark U21 national team, bringing him to 11 appearances at this level. Yellett signed with Johannes Spoles at Staplewood.
Technical Director Johannes Spols said: "Yerett is a versatile player who can play defensive positions on the right or left and even play in the midfield, which is a huge advantage for increasing the depth of our roster. He comes from a successful environment like Copenhagen FC and Galatasaray and is used to winning, which is the culture and mentality we hope to build in Southampton."
Yeerett said: "I am very happy. When I first heard their interest, I thought, 'Okay, I know this Premier League club, I know their goal is to return to the Premier League, I want to be part of this journey'. I think returning to the Premier League is a very realistic goal, and it is a good plan for me."
Galatasaray officially confirmed that Yeerett transferred on loan with a buyout option. Under the agreement, Southampton will pay a rental fee of 300,000 euros and may pay a bonus of up to 250,000 euros. The players' salaries will be borne by Southampton.
If the buyout option is activated, Southampton will pay a transfer fee of 8.5 million euros. In addition, 10% of the profits made by selling the player in the future will also be given to Galatasaray.
