In the 8th round of Group K of the European Group Stage of the World Cup Qualifiers, England played 5-0 away to Latvia and advanced to the World Cup main draw 2 rounds ahead of schedule. In an interview with the BBC after the game, England attacker Anthony Gordon said that he is not afraid of competition.

Gordon said: "This is great, this is my dream since I was a kid. I didn't really realize it until I walked into the dressing room and saw everyone celebrating. I think in the last three games, I have given my best performance in England, but I still feel I can do more."

"If I want to be a world-class winger, there is still a lot of work to do. I am not afraid of competition. Competition makes me better and makes us all better. Every young person dreams of playing in the World Cup for England."
